Man, Saturday you are a sight for sore eyes.
I AM SWAMPED. This past week has been filled with so many tests/projects/presentations/meetings that I’m goin bonkers. Next week looks to be the same….
But in the midst of the chaos, my invert zoology lab went on an EPIC day long field trip on Thursday out on a boat to collect specimens! We left to drive out to the port at 6:45am and witnessed a BEAUTIFUL sunrise. After boarding the boat at 7:45, we set out for adventure (and I was doped on dramamine haha) We saw dolphins, pelicans, rainbows and managed to catch some cool stuff in the troll nets like squid, brittle sea stars, crabs, shrimp, look down fish, and even AN OCTOPUS! They hadn’t caught one in over 2 years and they said it was super rare. My professor even told us that in the 44 years he’s been teaching, he’d only seen THREE (including ours) caught! I touched him and he felt squishy like a brain heehee
Being out on the boat, immersed in my passion of marine biology, made me feel SO happy. And now I totally want to start looking for internships for the summer or Christmas break
Even though there’s been a lot of stress goin on, I haven’t let it deter me from my plan and I feel really proud of myself for that. I don’t think I give myself enough credit sometimes for simple victories like that. The old me would’ve probably been freaking out hardcore, but this new, dedicated Alexandra won’t let those stinkin thinkin thoughts creep in. NEVER!

Anyway, I know y’all wanna know who won the giveaway, so I won’t torture you any longer haha

See y’all on Monday for my second progress post!
Do you get sea sick? (that’s my irony–wants to be a marine biologist, but has a pansy stomach on the water haha)
How do you conquer stressful weeks?

Those are some pretty legit-looking sea critters
oh man I want to take your classes. How cool!
I miss going on field trips! Although I’ve gotta say that I’ve never really been anywhere as cool as that… I think the best we ever did was go up to the mountains in the winter for skiing/boarding. That’s Canadians for ya
Sorry to hear that you’ve got so much on your plate, hun, but you’re freaking amazing for sticking to your plan and not letting those nasty thoughts creep in and derail you. I know it can be tempting to give in and listen to em, but in the end they only make it harder to deal with stress.
Ahh!! So awesome about the octopus!! Do you guys have comb jellies in your neck of the Gulf? I’ve read they are not true jellies because they don’t have stinging tentacles, but they are small and transparent and always seem scarier than they really are when you’re wakeboarding…heheh
Ya! We actually caught a lot in the nets and got to hold them! Our professor said they’re commonly known as snot jellies…totally true statement haha
Bahahaha!!!!! I love that! SO true!! I once had a friend throw one at me, it hit me on the neck and slid straight down into my life jacket haha!
Glad you had an awesome trip!
EWWWW hahha!!! I bet it was slimy!
And thanks girl! Hope you have a great weekend
Marine Bio is so cool. There are so many people at my school studying it and you sound just like them talking about how awesome it is and all the cool things they work with. I’m jealous that you get to work with all those creatures!!
I love your positivity and enthusiasm for life and for your career goals! It is super inspiring, and if you read my latest post you will see I need all the inspiration I can get!!! I love the marine life photos! YAY!
YES I get seasick!! Worst feeling ever.
That’s a REALLY cool thing about catching the octopus, though! Thanks for taking pictures and sharing!!
Oh,your field trip sounds so awesome!! I love the sea & underwater creatures, they’re absolutely fascinating in my eyes. I have two problems though: 1. I’m not allowed to dive (health-wise… I have problems with my eardrums and once water gets into my ears – BAM! – I get an inflammation of the middle ear),and 2. I get terribly sea sick. Blech.
Your course sounds awesome but stressful!!! My older bro is a marine biologist. He gets to go diving for work! He has been all over Aistralia. I love diving but get a little nervous with sharks around. You will love studying it! So interesting!
Ahh that’s so awesome!!! That’s my dream to live in Australia and do research with sharks
Your bro is one lucky dude!
That is such an awesome field trip! I actually wanted to be a marine biologist when I was younger, and I’m still really fascinated by the sea!
I’m having a stressful week too girl. I try to get through it by making to-do lists, making time to take care of myself, and motivating myself with Starbucks! Good luck with all your work.
I’ve had a super stressful week too. I hope it calms down for you!!
I totally get sea sick too.. Even on cruise ships haha!
Dohh sorry about to hear about the stressful week, although I am sure that day helped you out to mentally feel better! Totally cool about that octopus, I have dissected one before way back in the day! It does sound stressful though, I hope you learn so much more awesome stuff lady
I can’t say I get sea sick but my brother and mom sure do!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend hot stuff
The baby octopus is so cute! When you catch sea creatures, do you keep them for investigation/testing purposes, or do you throw them back into the ocean?
I’m so so happy that you’ve found your happy place in Corpus Christi!! It sounds like you’re really in your element, which is SO exciting! I can “hear” the passion in your writing! <3
It's been a bit stressful over here too…When I'm feeling overwhelmed, I set mini goals and then treat myself with something that I love, like a pedicure (foot rub fetish!) or seared scallops with butter. It's the simple pleasures that keep me going. Oh, and God. NOTHING is more inspiring and encouraging. <3
Happy weekend! xoxo <3
We threw the majority of the stuff back in the ocean, but we kept a few sea stars to observe!
And thanks so much for all the sweet words, Sara, I truly feel happy here! Now all I need is for you to visit
Oh and scallops and pampering sound like the perfect stress relievers EVER!! haha
woohoo!!!! i’m so excited about winning!
i get soooo seasick – ironic b/c j is a harbor patrol officer and spends his days on boats!
JEALZZ. I actually get really seasick personally. Funny because my dad spent 30 years in the Navy and worked on ships.
That sounds like the most legit field trip ever! I think sea creatures are so cool, especially octopus and jellyfish. But I live super far from any beaches so I almost never get to see the awesome stuff you see!
