Progress Numero Uno

Progress #1!!!

September 20th-24th

The details about my training/nutrition/coach can be found by clicking here.

Physical:

  • Fatigue is tremendously lower– like we’re talkin non-existant.
  • Alert, aware, and more focused in class and in general
  • More vascular and “filled out” (from dem carbs haha)
  • Digestive system is working like a fine-tuned machine– no bloating, cramps, or pain

Mental:

  • I don’t know if it’s because my relationship with God is getting stronger, or if it’s due to an easier semester, or a mix of both, but my stress levels have been strangely low. I don’t find myself worrying so much over each and every assignment for classes or about not being on the dot perfect with everything. And it made me realize how much time I wasted worrying during my freshman and sophomore year of college haha
  • Feel more confident
  • Excited :D

Exercise-wise:

  • I totally think I was overtraining before when I was working out 6 days a week. My body has been bouncing back a lot better from workouts and with just one extra rest day, I feel refreshed and more amped for the next lift.
  • Feel BADASS when I lift to this song (I LOVE IT)
  • Started taking creatine monohydrate per my coach’s suggestion to help with recovery– it’s still too early to see any difference, but my soreness has gone down!
  • I also changed my BCAA’s from Xtend to Dymatize Recoup. The amount of sodium in Xtend always made me psycho thirsty, so I had been wanting to try something new. So far, I LOVE it! The blue raspberry flavor is super nice AND it was like $10 cheaper than Xtend at Vitamin Shoppe haha I’ll probably type up a review about Recoup in the future once I see how my body responds.

Food-wise:

  • I’m realizing I sure didn’t know how to fuel my body correctly. Thank GOD for my coach. I wasn’t having NEARLY as many carbs as I should post or pre workout and holy cheesecakes can I feel a difference. Like, before, I would just have a medium sweet potato with a smidgen of sunflower seed butter and whey isolate after I lifted. I would crash like 30 mintes later and want to go to sleep. But on this new plan? I have an extra large sweet potato WITH a large banana and whey isolate and almond milk. I feel like a firework on the 4th of July aka amped all morning!
  • I bought my first pumpkin of the season! Normally I’d just carve him, but I wanted to see what it tasted like baked…BETTER THAN A KABOCHA. (which is good since I can’t find any down here haha) Simply put, I died.
  • Sweet potatoes the size of your head = most delicious fuel ever.
  • This week, my coach wants an increase in carbs by 15g and fats by 2g– bring on the dried mango and PB!! :D

Amazing verses:

“We can expect seventy years, or maybe eighty, if we are healthy, but even our best years bring trouble and sorrow. Suddenly our time is up and we disappear…Teach us to use wisely all the time we have.” –Psalms 90:10,12

“When you are in trouble, call out to me. I will answer and be there to protect and honor you.” –Psalms 91:15

“The best thing we can do is to enjoy eating, drinking, and working. I believe these are God’s gifts to us.” –Ecclesiastes 2:24

“You surely know that your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit lives. The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God. You are no longer your own. God paid a great price for you. So use your body to honor God.” –1 Corinthians 6:19-20

“Jesus Christ never changes! He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” –Hebrews 13:8

PIC-CHA time:

I named him Timothy heehee Oh and sorry for the lame lighting, my phone camera was messed up

like my nifty camera setup? haha

quest bar sandwich!! I cut a lemon quest bar in half, topped it with coconut butter and nuked it in the microwave for 15 seconds. YUM

PS– I made a new page located under the progress page dedicated to this journey with a little background and such :)

Have a kick butt day y’all!!

  1. I’m so glad everything is going well girl!! Sounds like you are finding some good fuel. The quest bar looks delish! Your arms and shoulders look great for sure :) keep up the hard work and have a great day and week!

  2. AWESOME PROGRESS!! I know, carbs are just awesome right?! I also LOVE that Chris Brown song. Not him, but the song haha. :) And that Quest Bar sandwich is GENIUS,

  3. You look out of this world!! And I am so happy that you have finally found a plan that works for YOUR body! That’s always the hardest part! You’re going to love those BCAA’s!! Can’t wait for next Monday’s update! :) Kick some strong girl butt this week in your workouts! ;)

  4. Eee I’m so excited for you hun! It’s so, SO great to hear that things have been working so well for you lately :D And I know I’ve told you this already, but all of your hard work is definitely showing because you look SO ripped… the only thing I can think of when I see that pic is “Daaaaaaaaamn girl!” Can’t wait to see how much more progress you make on this new plan. And isn’t it amazing how good we feel when we’re properly fuelling ourselves? I definitely noticed a big difference in my overall mood, ability to handle stress, and energy levels when I’m giving my body what it needs. It’s crazy how much our bodies actually need to function at their most optimal level, but getting to eat more food? I’m not complaining!

Hope you’re having a beautiful Monday!

  5. HOLY CRAP. You look amazing lady!! And everything sound like it is going so well for you. That is so awesome! I would love to feel energized all the time, but I think that has to do more with the fact I have my puppy than with my food lol

  6. Yeah, that back is STILL impressing me lady! And LOVE that you’re feeling/experiencing all sorts of improvement! I bought some Dymatize BCAAs, but a different variety (BCAA 50/50 I think?). And unflavored. Which was a terrible idea, haha.

  7. holy shiz balls you are freaking impressive. I love these and it gives me more motivation in changing up my eating routine. now working on my stomach my doctor has told me he wants to revamp my eating and you made that all click. Gosh, this post is all kinds of wonderful

  8. yayyy glad things are going so well! i always find that i see the most progress when i just follow how i’m feeling instead of a specific “this is exactly what you have to do” kind of plan

  9. Look at your hands… THEY ARE ORANGE = Hypervitaminosis A!

You should swap from now on your favorite sweet potatoes for classic potaoes/ brown rice/ quinoa/ pasta/ lentils/ … and see your doctor asap to check your vitamin A levels (blood test).

I sincerely hope that your liver is still 100% healthy!
Wish you all the best :)

    • Ya, recently, I’ve been eating a lot more squash, corn and bananas to supplement the carbs from sweet potatoes. I’m honestly getting kinda tired of them! Maybe it’s my body’s way of telling me to lighten up on the vitamin A haha
I actually went about a month ago to get a full physical with blood tests/allergy tests and thankfully my liver is right as rain! WOO! :D
And thanks for the support girl, I really appreciate it! :)

  10. You sound like you’re on top of the world right now and I couldn’t be happier for you! :D

Thanks for the tip about pumpkins… I need to buy myself one next week at the market for sure!

Also about the comment above mine – you don’t need to worry about vitamin A toxicity. Orange veggies don’t contain vitamin A, they contain beta-carotene which gets converted to vitamin A. BUT our bodies only convert it if we need it. So it’s impossible to get vitamin A toxicity from veggies. ;)

    • Wow I never knew all that! You’re gonna make an amazing dietician one day Chelsea, you’re so smart! And I’m glad to know I can’t get any kind of toxicity. Even if I could, I think I would sacrifice the risk– I just love veggies too much haha Lemme know what you think abou the pumpkin if you try it! :D

  11. I’m SO SO happy for you!! You deserve the best, and I can tell how excited you are over this new plan. And clearly its working so well for you. Yay for feeling great!! I’m hoping I’ll get there soon. I still have the dreaded “fog brain”, I guess its time to up those calories again!
What what, pumpkin better than kabocha?!?! How can you say such a thing ha ha. Now I need to go to the store for pumpkin to roast, although I still have about 3 kabohcas right now.
I can’t wait to hear about your progress further in, I know you will make huge strides and muscle gains! Keep it up!xo

  12. So, to echo everyone else , you are looking SO FAB & riiiiped! You should be my trainer, ha.
And it’s awesome how happy, & great you are feeling on this new plan.

Sorry if this is a silly question , or if you’ve already answered this- but, do you have any figure / body building /fitness competition aspirations? Cos you’d win:).
    Xxx

  13. First of all: I love the expression ‘holy cheesecakes’!

Second of all: Holy cheesecakes, your back and arms are so inspiring! As soon as I am done training for my next half I have to get back to lifting!

Third of all: It is so great to read that you are feeling close to God, and have lower stress levels. I am soo happy for you! :)

  14. Good lord you are so dang ripped. I love your arm/back shots cause you are totaaalllyyy my inspiration!! YAYA for eating that baked pumpkin!! You must bake one and DOUCHE it with cinnamon!! SO GOOD!! It sounds like your coach hunting is finally over!! YAY!

  15. ya girl!! xo loved the updates. I really love this series you have going. Your pwo sounds more like mine now yay! And I agree, 5 days was awesome. My trainer has me doing 4 now, though.

  16. Umm the quest bar idea with the coconut butter is… awesome to say the flippen least woman! Oh and hello there ripped woman, you are looking so fabulous my dear friend! You are making such great progress to say the least and you have so many positive both physical and mental outcomes! So psyched for you, and looking forward to hearing more and more about the new situation, coaching, and your bad ass life ;)

  17. Awesome progress! Your arms look shredded. :)

That quest combo sounds wonderful. I would buy them, but they are so gosh darn expensive. I might contact the company and see if I can do a sample/review!

  18. Holy quest bar, batman!!!! DUDE. I made a special trip to GNC and picked up a few chocolate brownie Quest bars after reading your review of them. I packed one with my school stuff/workout gear today and ate it after class on my way to the gym to do a swim workout. I am usually really beat by the end of my day and my swim workout can be a struggle, but HOLY TOLEDO. Not only was the Quest bar like eating brownie heaven, it was the BEST swim workout of my life! I tried to do the same intervals last Friday in the pool and had to cut it short. Today, I felt like a stinkin sailfish flying through the water and even finished my workout feeling like I could’ve swum longer! Thanks so much for the recommendation!

  19. I’m so PUMPED for you!! Your enthusiasm is contagious! Heck yes to head-sized sweet potatoes! (But wasn’t Timothy too cute to eat?) ;-p Seriously though, I’m really proud of you! Taking a leap of faith and increasing cals is no easy feat, but you’re ROCKING this, girl! I’m inspired. <3 Keep these progress updates coming! <3

p.s. I know you're grain-free…Besides sweet potatoes and bananas, does your trainer have any recommendations for pre and post-workout carbs? I added rice cakes back in the mix because my taste buds were getting a bit bored with those two. My tummy isn't a huge fan of the rice though! xoxo
