Sooo I didn’t get a cat…

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that yesterday, I adopted this handsome boy instead!!

Saturday, I realized I am NOT a cat person.

I’ve grown up only with dogs, so I have the experience. We have dogs now, including one rescue (which is honestly the greatest dog I’ve ever known). And dogs actually interact with you and you can walk them…unlike most cats ;)

Simply put, I love dogs.

So yesterday, when I saw this face looking at me from a kennel…well…I just couldn’t say no.

Meet Kovu :) (yes, Kovu as in from the Lion King 2 heehee)

His original name was Tattoo, but I had my heart set on Kovu. He’s 9 months old, a heeler/australian shepherd mix, and filled with energy and happiness, but isn’t a barker at all. He gives lots of kisses too! :D  The Humane Society we adopted him from was having a 70% off sale for outdoor kennel dogs, so he only cost $25. How on earth could any owner ever surrender such a fabulous dog?!?!

He napped on the truck ride home and when we introduced him to our other dogs, they all hit it off IMMEDIATELY! Even our alpha semi-mean aussie shepherd likes him! Last night, they chased each other all around the yard and tuckered themselves out haha

I’m SO excited to take him down to Corpus Christi with me– we’re gonna have so much fun going to the beach, taking long walks, car rides, and just veggin together at my apartment. :) Here’s to a future full of fun!

What kind of pets do you have? Are any of them adopted?

I have a feeling he’ll be making many more blog cameos– especially since we’re both freckled haha I wonder if he likes lifting weights?? ;)

  1. Ahhhhh! Oh my gosh. So cute and what a good breed. That’s amazing. I’m jealous. Haha. Makes me miss my babies at home.
All my dogs are rescued and most of my cats are from the humane society or the streets. One of my cats was actually thrown out of a car on the highway and we saved it.

  2. Aaaah I <3 him!!! rescue dogs are the best kind to get. I know that as soon as I settle myself in a semi-permanent location with a semi-permanent job, I am totally 100% getting a dog, and I’m definitely going the rescue route!

  3. HE IS ADORBS OMG! It melts my heart. :) I am NOT a cat person and I am not trying to be mean, but first of all, when I was little we had two cats that viciously attacked my brother and I (I kid you not) and second, cats just keep to themselves. My dad was a K-9 officer before and we had a German shepherd and he taught me that dogs are truly man’s best friends. I love dogs oh so much. :D I have a black lab that we saved from a bad farm life in Wisconsin!

  4. Aww so cute. I’m not really living in a situation where keeping a dog is possible – but I totally would have one if I could. I’m not a cat person AT ALL, so it’s dog love 100% for me.

  5. what a CUTIE!!!!!! I myself have a cat…I’ve had her since I was 10 but we raised her and spoiled her so she acts like a dog. She’s attention craved…always sitting on my belly and constantly wants to be petted. She stays with me at school and then my family has a dog at home, and not just any dog–a GOLDEN DOODLE! :) love her!

  6. Gah! This post hit me right in the heartstrings. Kovu is so adorable, and he has freckles too!

I am so tempted to adopt a dog too. They are the perfect companions!

  7. Ahhh I love him!!! Congratulations!! I’ve always had rescue dogs too, and I love them. There is something so special about the love you get from a dog that has been through so much. Congrats again, and I’m sure you guys are going to have so many amazing adventures together!

  8. Awww! YES for adoption! And for adopting such a sweetie. I’m a dog person too–for similar reasons. Grew up around them, like that there’s a little more interaction than with a cat. Just chickens for me right now, but I would like to own a dog eventually, when I have a little more time/interest in responsibility.

And I wasn’t following you on IG before..but I am now!

  9. Awww!!! So adorable, and the part I love most is that you named him after a Disney character. ;)
He’s such a cutie, and I’m so glad to hear that he’s been getting along with all the other dogs! :D

  10. Aaaaah! You’re so LUCKY you got Kovu (great name!!!) :-D I wish my family had dogs again (I told you about our collies already, I think). The plans are for us to get a collie pup (or two) sometime between this and next year, but secretly I want to adopt an ex-racing greyhound ;-)

  11. Just saw this on FB and had to check your blog.. Hahaha. As I said, Koda approves! Kovu is super duper cute. :) We are thinking of adopting another dog, but we also have five cats, a chinchilla, a cockateil, chickens, ducks, and geese. I love animals!

  12. HE’S SO CUTE!! I’m so glad that you adopted him! There are too many that need homes. Take it from me, you will LOVE having a dog at school with you :)

  13. Eeee!! Kovu is cutie! I’m so happy for you, Alexandra! He sure is lucky to have such an amazing mama doting on him now. :) I’m looking forward to many future cameos (*especially* if you can manage to sneak him into the weight room!) ;-p

I am 110% a dog person. My family has had dogs for as long as I can remember (a few rescues, a few purebreds–all equally loved!), and it pains me to live in a place where they’re not allowed! Once I have a real house, the first thing I’m going to do is find a furry canine companion. :)

I’m so excited for you and Kovu to begin a new adventure together in Corpus Christi! <3

  14. Awwww Kovu is adorable! I don’t know if I’m a cat or dog person, since my family’s never had either, but I do love dogs, especially greyhounds and whippets. Now I just need to move to a pet-friendly apartment so I can get one!

  15. He is soooooooooo adorable, aaw! I wish I could give him a giant hug! <3
I love my dog more than anything as well,he's not only my baby but literally the apple of my eye… Oh,and my cat as well,of course, but she has craaaazy moodswings – like her mommy, hehe ;)

  16. Awww Kovu is so so sweet! I love that you named him from the Lion King 2 :-P He’s adorable looking and I’m not even really a dog person! I know you two are going to simply have an amazing time together when you move :-) This is all so exciting!
